How To Find Out What You Believe In
This section will provide you with a step-by-step guide to help you find out what you believe in.
Step 1: Identify your values.
What are the things that are most important to you? What do you care about the most? These are your values. Write down the three most important values for yourself.
Values can be anything from saving the environment to getting ahead in your career. They are the ones that are most important to you personally. They can also be about other people, such as family values or country values.
Step 2: Identify your beliefs.
What do you think about these values? What is your opinion on them? These are your beliefs. Write down three of them for yourself as well. . Examples: 1) Honesty has always been my policy in life. 2) Going into relationships without being honest is not healthy and will lead to problems. 3) I am morally obligated not to break any promises made.
Step 3: Determine if these two sets of thoughts align with one another or not.
If they align, then this is what we call a belief system, and if they don’t, then there may be some inconsistencies in beliefs.
Belief systems are a part of your identity and are formed through your life experiences, as well as the information you read and see. They don’t have to be logical, but they need to be coherent. For example, if someone is an atheist and believes in evolution, they may not believe in God. On the other hand, if someone is a Christian and believes in God’s will being carried out through their belief.
